7 day bathroom remodel in Patchogue, New York
Accessible remodeling completed a large tub to shower conversion in Patchogue, NY that transformed a dated bathtub area into a fully custom shower built for daily use and long-term durability.
The project replaced the existing tub with an oversized custom shower pan, measuring 72 by 40 inches, to give the homeowner a generous showering area. We designed and installed a pocket bench with an engineered stone top, providing a comfortable place to sit and a hard, low-maintenance surface that blends with the tile work.
To increase storage inside the shower, the remodel included a double shower niche. The niches are oversized to make toiletries easy to reach and keep counters clear, and they were positioned for convenient access from the bench and standing shower area.
Waterproofing was a key part of this job. The entire custom shower enclosure is outfitted with a Schluter waterproofing system behind the tile, which protects the walls and substrate from moisture and helps prevent leaks and mold issues over time. Using a recognized membrane system gives the tiled surfaces a reliable barrier against water intrusion.
We also added practical safety and storage features outside the shower. A grab bar was installed by the toilet to assist with balance and to provide extra security for daily use. Custom storage closets were built into the bathroom to increase usable space for linens and supplies, freeing up countertop and floor areas.
The final touch was a set of brushed nickel glass shower doors. The doors close out the enclosure with a clean, modern look, and their metal finish ties in with other bathroom fixtures for a cohesive appearance. The glass keeps the new, larger shower visible and lets light move through the room.
Throughout the project, Accessible Remodeling coordinated the structural, waterproofing, tile, and glass work so each element fit together as intended. The result is a custom shower that combines a roomy pan, a sturdy pocket bench with an engineered stone top, oversized niches, and reliable waterproofing, plus added safety and storage for everyday convenience.
If you are in Patchogue, NY and thinking about a tub to shower conversion, this project shows how careful planning and the right materials can update a bathroom while addressing function, safety, and long-term performance.
